For-and-against essay

Эссе - задание высокой сложности. На ЕГЭ оно может принести Вам 14 баллов.

Для начала предлагаю рассмотреть структуру эссе. Для этого ознакомимся с примерным заданием на ЕГЭ.

Comment on the following statement:

Making a good salary is more important than job satisfaction.

What is your opinion? Do you agree with this statement? Write 200-250 words. Use the following plan: —    make an introduction (state the problem) —    express your personal opinion and give 2-3 reasons for your opinion —    express an opposing opinion and give 1-2 reasons for this opposing opinion —    explain why you don’t agree with the opposing opinion —    make a conclusion restating your position

Структура сочинения:
1 абзац - формулирование проблемы. Предлагаю прежде всего попробовать перефразировать тему эссе, перепишите её, изменяя максимальное кол-во слов, как минимум 2 раза. В этом Вам поможет словарь синонимов. В первом абзаце также важно показать спорность проблемы, по которой Вы пишите сочинение.(см. шаблон)
2 абзац - Ваше мнение. Предлагаю занять чёткую позицию по выбранной теме, либо вы согласны, либо нет. Начинаете абзац с выражения своей точки зрения на проблему (в этом Вам опять поможет перефразированнная тема) и подкрепляете её 2-3 аргументами.
3 абзац - мнение противоположной стороны. Здесь достаточно 1-2 аргументов.
4 абзац - контраргумент, или "почему Вы не согласны с противоположной точкой зрения". Часто эссе, в которой чаще всего возникают ошибки. Здесь важно связать его с 3 абзацем, не добавляя новых аргументов, не соглашаясь, а вежливо настаивая на своей точке зрения.
5 абзац - заключение. Суммируем всё сказанное выше, кратко аргументируем, используем 2 абзац, перефразируя его.

При написании эссе нужно руководствоваться следующим правилами:
1. использовать формальный стиль (избегать сокращений, разговорных выражений, фразовых глаголов, риторических вопросов, не начинайте предложения с and, but, also, не используйте скобки и восклицательные знаки)
2. используйте продвинутые грамматические структуры (пассивный залог, конструкции с инфинитивом и герундием), избегайте слишком простых предложений, объединяйте из в более сложные;
3. используйте продвинутую лексику по теме, избегайте повторений!

Пример эссе:

Making a good salary is more important than job satisfaction.

It is common knowledge that career choice is one of the most important decisions in our life. Some people believe that it is more essential to love what you do, whereas others prefer to focus on a higher salary while choosing a future profession.

In my opinion, a satisfying job is way more important than a good income. It fills life with positive emotions giving the energy to accomplish different tasks as we manage our daily routine. Another positive aspect of a fulfilling job is that your performance and, consequently, results are higher if you are keen on the task you are doing. 

There are people who have the opposing opinion, for them the material aspect plays a more important role than the enjoyment from what they do. They justify that position by claiming that the more money you have, the better life you can afford. In their viewpoint money equals opportunities – opportunities for better housing, education and entertainment.

However veracious it sounds, I would not agree with the above mentioned idea. If people do their work for pleasure rather than for money, they will eventually become professionals in a chosen area, and specialists are seldom underpaid or underestimated. Eventually, a favourite job becomes a well-paid one.

To conclude, I am convinced that an occupation you fancy definitely wins over the one that brings you only money as work occupies a great part of everyday routine and it is more logical to spend this time with pleasure.
